Reports & publications
Below is a sampling of reports and analyses that I produced as a lead analyst, report writer, researcher, and/or evaluator. Unfortunately, as is often the case, many reports are confidential in nature. Some of the publicized reports are presented below with their corresponding hyperlink.

Origin Performance & Risk Report: Brazil
The Rainforest Alliance and partners have worked in coffee for nearly four decades. While there are still challenges in the sector, we’ve also seen great improvements. In Brazil, many farms are large and modernized with high productivity. Though incomes are relatively high, many farms rely on expensive and volatile input costs. Our research shows that agrochemical handling and worker safeguards are key issues.
We believe it is important to measure and monitor these key trends to provide a snapshot of what’s happening and where support is needed. Our report includes data from Rainforest Alliance projects and certification with context from external research and observation from Rainforest Alliance experts. We provide this information in a short, simple, and data-packed report for everyone in our alliance to use.

Origin Performance & Risk Report: Honduras
The Rainforest Alliance and partners have worked in coffee for nearly four decades. While there are still challenges in the sector, we’ve also seen great improvements. In Honduras, producers range from smallholder to large-scale. While production costs are lower than in many other coffee-growing countries, earning a living income is very challenging and labor is becoming scarce due to economic instability and migration. Production has largely recovered from the coffee leaf rust crisis of 2012, but climate change presents new threats (especially in higher altitudes) and deforestation is a continuing risk.

Origin Performance & Risk Report: Colombia
The Rainforest Alliance and partners have worked in coffee for nearly four decades. While there are still challenges in the sector, we’ve also seen great improvements. In Colombia, the vast majority of coffee producers are smallholders, many with less than one hectare of land. Limited land size and economic opportunity make it very challenging to earn a living income, which is further complicated by the economics of coffee production. Climate change presents new threats, especially in high altitudes of the Andes; deforestation is also a continuing risk.
